It is under each applicant´s personal responsibility to find a supervisor for the doctoral thesis. Therefore it is required to get acceptance by a relevant supervisor prior to applying for admission.
During studies a doctoral thesis is to be elaborated and accompanying courses are attended. Courses and doctoral thesis are allocated to thematic programs.
One of these thematic programs is to be selected officially matched with the theme of your planned doctoral thesis. Courses offered by other thematic programs can be taken as well as far as they fit the scientific background of the thesis project.
It is recommended to contact the program coordinator of the thematic program you are interested in prior to admitting to PhD studies in order to get more detailed information about the thematic program.
Additional to the accompanying courses within the chosen thematic program you have to attend courses within the so-called „Propedeutics“.
Minimum duration: 3 years, full-time, basic-science oriented

Clinical PhD – Doctor of Philosophy (Q794 445)
Der Clinical PhD ist ein berufsbegleitender Doktoratsstudiengang für AbsolventInnen des Diplomstudienganges Humanmedizin und Zahnmedizin. Er dient der Erlangung der dritten und höchsten Stufe akademischer Grade, die nach Bologna an einer Universität mit einem Studium erworben werden können. Innerhalb des Doktoratsstudienganges gibt es mehrere Programme, die Projekte mit wissenschaftlichen Themenschwerpunkten der Medizinischen Universität Innsbruck betreuen. Neben einer mindestens eineinhalbjährigen reinen Forschungszeit sollen die klinisch-orientierten Studierenden auch die Möglichkeit haben, einen Teil des Studiums berufsbegleitend zur Facharztausbildung absolvieren zu können. Dies wird vor allem beim Angebot der Formalen Lehre berücksichtigt. Clinical PhD Studierende sind junge NachwuchsforscherInnen, die dann mit Erlangung des PhD zu eigenständiger klinisch orientierter Forschung befähigt sind.

Doktoratsstudium Medizinische Wissenschaft
Das Doktoratsstudium der Medizinischen Wissenschaft verbindet einen innovativen Studienplan mit der optimalen Unterstützung aller Studierenden, um junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler in die selbstständige Forschungstätigkeit einzuführen.
Das Ziel des dreijährigen Studiums mit 180 ECTS Punkten, das in Vollzeit oder Teilzeit durchgeführt werden kann, ist eine kumulative Promotion auf der Basis von Veröffentlichungen in Zeitschriften mit hoher internationaler Reputation. Unsere Studierenden veröffentlichen im Durchschnitt zwei Arbeiten während ihres PhD Studiums. Alternativ besteht auch die Möglichkeit, eine monographische Dissertationsarbeit ohne Veröffentlichung einzureichen.
Der Studienabschluss, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), ist weltweit anerkannt und bildet die Grundlage für eine Habilitation. Alle Lehrprogramme der Paracelsus Medizinischen Privatuniversität unterliegen strengen externen Qualitätskontrollen und erfüllen die Vorgaben des Europäischen Credit Transfer Systems (ECTS) sowie der Europäischen Qualifikationsrichtlinien (Level 8, lifelong learning).
